Bianca Dufty takes up position of Deputy Children’s Guardian
Long-time advocate for Aboriginal children and families, Bianca Dufty, began her role as Deputy Children’s Guardian in NSW on Monday 9 February 2026.
Welcoming her to the position, Children’s Guardian Rachael Ward said Ms Dufty brings strong skills and experience to the Office of the Children's Guardian.
‘A solicitor for 12 years, she has primarily worked in the Family Law Division at Legal Aid, most recently as Deputy Director Family Law,’ Ms Ward said.
‘Before that, she held leadership roles at Legal Aid in Family Law and the Aboriginal Service Branch, as well as establishing the Family Law Service for Aboriginal Communities (FamAC) as Solicitor in Charge.’
‘Bianca will provide strong leadership across the full range of our work, including in out-of-home care where Aboriginal children remain significantly over-represented,’ Ms Ward said.
Taking up the position, Ms Dufty said she was excited and honoured to be joining the Office of the Children’s Guardian.
‘I believe in collaboration, deep listening, and incorporating Aboriginal ways of being, knowing, and doing into how we work together – valuing diverse perspectives, building authentic relationships, and understanding that the best outcomes emerge from collective wisdom,’ Ms Dufty said.
Ms Dufty is a proud Ngemba and Gamilaraay woman living on unceded Dharawal country.
Before working at Legal Aid, Ms Dufty held roles at the Aboriginal Legal Service, and the Australian Department of Human Services.
