Commencement of amendments relating to the residential care workers register

On 1 July 2025, changes to the residential care workers register commenced relating to probity checks for workers on the register.
These amendments:
- align probity check requirements for workers currently engaged by another provider, with the requirement for workers previously engaged by another provider;
- mandate checks with another residential care provider for a worker seeking to be re-engaged within 12 months of ceasing work if the other provider indicates on the Residential Care Workers Register it holds relevant information.
These amendments ensure consistent checking of workers on the register and address deficiencies in exchange of information relevant to the safety of children.
The amendments are set out in the Children’s Guardian Amendment (Code of Practice) Regulation 2024.
