Parents and carers play an important role in making sure their children are safe in organisations. Organisations that provide services to children, or employ them in entertainment or modelling, have responsibilities to keep them safe from harm and abuse. Children are safer when their parents or carers are informed and involved.

Check the Check

Parents should check that any private tutors or coaches they hire for their children have a valid Working with Children Check - and verify this online.

Ask about child safe policies

Ask organisations about their child safe policies and code of conduct, and who you should contact if you have a concern.

Employing children

Anyone employing children in entertainment (under 15 years) or modelling (under 16 years) must have an authority to employ children.

Choosing a child safe organisation

Parents and carers play an important role in making sure their children are spending time in places that are safe.

Working with Children Check

There are times when a parent may need to hold or verify a Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance.

Out-of-home care

Children may need to live outside the home for many reasons, such as to access respite or being unable to live with their own families.

Children's employment

In NSW there are specific laws to protect the safety and wellbeing of your child when working in modelling and entertainment industries.
