In May, the Office of the Children’s Guardian launches a new webinar series on recruiting paid workers and volunteers who are safe to work with children.

In announcing the new training, NSW Children’s Guardian, Rachael Ward, reminded employers that there is more to recruiting safe workers than the Working with Children Check.

‘Our new webinars coming soon will show you how to meet your legal obligations under the Working with Children Check, but that’s just the start,’ Ms Ward said.

‘Having a child-focused recruitment process will help you make better decisions when taking on new people.

‘It also sends a message to applicants that you take child protection seriously and you’re not a soft target for potential abusers,’ Ms Ward said.

Beginning next month, Child Safe Recruitment and the WWCC joins the suite of free training sessions that focus on the Child Safe Standards, Reporting Obligations, Risk Management and more.

‘As with our other sessions, the new webinar is supported by an in-depth handbook on the subject, also freely available,’ Ms Ward said.

‘The new sessions were first run for early childhood education services and have also been part of face-to-face sessions in our Child Safe Roadshow.

‘Feedback from participants has been used to refine and improve the sessions so that our trainers cover the most important issues that organisations experience when recruiting new workers suitable for child-related work,’ Ms Ward said.
