Foundational Module: How to be Child Safe FAQ
The foundational module is the first module in the revised Child Safe Organisations eLearning program. It provides a shared, baseline understanding of child safety, including key principles, responsibilities and expectations for organisations and individuals.
The module is designed for anyone who works with or around children in NSW, including staff, volunteers, leaders, board members and managers across child-related organisations. It can be used by people starting their child safe journey or those who want to refresh their understanding of how to keep children safe in organisations in NSW.
The module has been developed to strengthen consistency, clarity and understanding of child safety across sectors. It reflects current best practice and supports organisations to build child safe cultures, not just meet minimum requirements. It aligns with updated legislation for the NSW Child Safe Standards and Child Safe Scheme.
This module is part of a new eLearning program that will eventually replace the existing course: Child Safe eLearning – Keeping children safe in organisations.
If you have already completed the Child Safe eLearning – Keeping children safe in organisations module, you are encouraged to complete the foundational module to remain up to date with current legislation and child safe best practice.
If you haven’t done the Child Safe eLearning – Keeping children safe in organisations module, please complete the new foundational module.
The module is designed to be concise and practical. It will take most learners about an hour to complete it in a single session.
Yes. Learners will be sent an email of completion once they finish the module.
Yes. The existing suite will remain available until the full upgraded suite is published in late 2026. Participants who are in the middle of completing the existing courses will be contacted in advance before these courses are removed from the website.
No. The foundational module is designed for learners at all levels and does not assume prior child safety training.
