Working with Children Week 2023 is celebrated on 19-25 June. We know that there is more to working with children than just seeing if our workers/volunteers have a WWCC. Keeping children safe means we supervise and support our staff to encourage child safe practices. #WWCW2023

For us, the Working with Children Week 2023 theme ‘Suitable and supported staff’ means building staff capability and creating a culture where children are at the heart of everything we do. #WWCW2023

Working with Children Week is a chance to celebrate those who put children first. Our team is committed to valuing a child-safe culture and supporting staff that share our mission to provide safe and quality services to your children. #WWCW2023

Working with Children Week 2023 is 19-25 June and I want to thank you for all that you do every day. We contribute to the lives of many children and as a leader, I want to make sure you are supported in putting their interests first.

The Working with Children Check (WWCC) should already be a part of how you find new staff or volunteers to work with children in your setting but putting children first is more than just a number.

Please make sure you are registered as an employer with the Office of the Children’s Guardian and are verifying WWCC numbers online. This is the only way to know that someone is cleared to work with children and is a legal requirement.

From 1 February 2023, Part 9A of the Children’s Guardian Act 2019 came into force, which allows the Children's Guardian to take action to ensure organisations comply with the Child Safe Standards. Please make sure you are familiar with the Standards and have started reviewing and aligning your policies and procedures with the Standards.

The Office of the Children’s Guardian have a range of resources to help.

You might like to sign up for one of the training sessions they are offering during Working with Children Week. If you need more support, you can contact the Office of the Children’s Guardian or [Your organisation’s child-safe contact details].

Let children in your organisation show their appreciation for the staff members that help keep them safe.

You can now renew your WWCC by using digital proof of identity – no need to visit a Service NSW Centre.
How to renew using digital proof of identity (POI)

    You will need:

    • A MyServiceNSW account with the WWCC service added
    • 3 current identity documents including a NSW driver licence or photo card
    • a device with a working front camera for face verification.

If you're renewing a paid WWCC, you will also need a credit card, debit card, PayPal or PayID account.

If you have an expired WWCC clearance or have changed your name on your identity documents since the last time you renewed your WWCC, you can't renew using digital proof of identity.
