Working with Children Week 2024 is 17-23 June and I want to thank you for all that you do every day.

We contribute to the lives of many children and as a leader, I want to make sure you are supported in serving the children and their families. The Working with Children Check (WWCC) should already be a part of how you find new staff or volunteers to work with children in your setting but putting children first is more than just a number.

Please make sure you are registered as an employer with the Office of the Children’s Guardian and are verifying WWCC numbers online. This is the only way to know that someone is cleared to work with children and is a legal requirement.

Part 9A of the Children’s Guardian Act 2019 came into force last year, which allows the Children's Guardian to take action to ensure organisations comply with the Child Safe Standards. Please make sure you are familiar with the Standards, and have started reviewing and aligning your policies and procedures with the Standards.
