Some NSW Government agencies must develop and report on Child Safe Action Plans. These are strategic plans that clearly detail how these agencies will influence change across their sectors, noting their authority as sector leaders. The plans promote sector-wide reform, building awareness of child safety and embedding the Child Safe Standards across existing regulatory schemes.
In February 2022, new laws were introduced to create the NSW Child Safe Scheme. These laws aim to make sure that organisations in NSW are doing everything they can to keep children safe.
The Child Safe Standards provide a framework for creating child safe organisations. They are designed to drive cultural change to create, maintain and improve child safe practices. When organisations apply the Standards they build a culture where abuse of children is prevented, responded to and reported.
The NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian is proud to offer our protective behaviours program which includes the following characters: Sam, Andy, Fiona, Eve and Mandu. They’re the stars of the SAFE series, a set of four books containing protective behaviour messages aimed at children 2-6 years old.
